cloud or not cloud
Hi,
an important client of mine is evaluating the possibility of moving to the cloud, he has IBM iPower Server and about 60 clients using the server interactively by native application throughout the day and each client has my application (FiveWin) that use Ado Connection.
what do you think?
Is the cloud a good solution?
Thanks.

Re: cloud or not cloud
These are decisions of your customer I think.
The question is: your application will remain as fast as it currently is?
Do they have good connectivity?
Think about it carefully
Have a nice day

Hola,

Hi,
The cloud is necessary
The cloud expands your scenario
The cloud is not the future, it is the present
There is only one problem. How can you go to the cloud?

Hello Charly:
>There is only one problem. How can you go to the cloud?
Maybe you know the joke:
a woman calls the fire department and reports a fire.
the emergency call center then asks the woman, how do we get to you?
the woman replies: don’t you have those red cars?
Adapted, one could ask: don’t you have Wi-Fi?
Best regrards,
Otto

Re: cloud or not cloud
My 2 cents worth .... "There is no such thing as the cloud, it is just someone else's computer" The cloud is basically a data center somewhere ... and large targets for hackers ... so let me ask you this .. would you put your password to your bank account on "Someone else's computer" ?? I don't think so .. buy your own servers and storage and keep it behind your firewall..... all it takes is once for your cloud provider to get hacked and you lose your application and data.

Dear Rick,
I think these are very negative words. Nowadays everything moves on the web.
What would be your answer? I'll answer for you: "This is not true, I've been using it for years and it works perfectly" So, what happens? The misuse of dbs in a network environment or in adolescence in this case can cause these problems.
Well, the same thing happens with the web, its misuse or bad programming opens doors in this case to possible security failures.
I have known your way of thinking about the web for a long time, but you should give it a chance in your projects…
And to finish, I refer to what I said in the previous post. The only problem is the "capacity" to be able to program on the web as well. It is like that, believe me... If you had the capacity in Harbour to program correctly on the web, I assure you that you would make the same applications or more than in Windows, but the web... is very difficult and requires a great effort to learn how to use it correctly.
My 3 cents
Regards.
C.

- - You buy from Amazon -> your credit card travels
- You connect to your bank
- You check your newspaper
- You even post your opinion here
- Thousands of cases
- - When you use dbf the information is corrupt because it breaks
- When you use ado it crashes and is unstable
- Blah blah blah

Re: cloud or not cloud
Hello friends,
The path to the web is exciting but also comes with challenges.
Especially in self-hosting, where responsibilities often rest with one person, it is important to be aware of the different roles.
In this case, the system administrator and web programmer are often the same person who manages both the infrastructure and develops the application.
Nevertheless, it is crucial to separate these tasks and view each role with its own responsibilities to implement a comprehensive security strategy.
I have spent the last few weeks focusing heavily on securing the servers and refreshing my knowledge.
I looked up a lot of information and compiled everything into a kind of handbook. I have already posted part of it.
https://forums.fivetechsupport.com/view ... e1b6d3f076
Summary of the action plan:
Prepare the server environment (strong passwords, Windows updates, antivirus software).
Install and configure Apache (set up apacheuser, run the service securely).
Set file system permissions (only apacheuser has read/write access).
Secure Apache configuration (SSL, disable directory listing, access restrictions).
Set up network security (firewall, secure remote access).
Configure security headers (protection against XSS, clickjacking).
Install WAF (ModSecurity to protect against web attacks).
Protection against DoS attacks (mod_evasive, Fail2Ban).
Regular updates (Windows, Apache, PHP).
Implement a backup strategy (regular backups).
Set up logging and monitoring (Apache logs, IDS).
Prepare an emergency and incident response plan (response to security incidents).
By implementing these steps, your Apache server on Windows will be comprehensively secured and protected against the most common threats.
Best regards,
Otto

Hello friends,
I think if we had a good checklist of everything we really need to consider, divided into the three areas of responsibility:
system administrator,
web app developer,
and user,
we could alleviate many of the concerns.
Best regards,
Otto

Re: cloud or not cloud

Hello friends,
Creating the safety manual is a complex task.
I have not yet found a good outline. However, with each test installation and by going through the steps outlined in the concept, the guide improves.
I have built a tree view to manage the notes. Now, I have added a tree view item icon that allows me to set a check/uncheck.
I will now mark the tested points as checked with the OK checkmark.
Best regards,
Otto

Friends,
If we haven't had moved our systems to MySql, my company has already closed now. Thanks to mysql, our customers can access its data from anywhere, with only an instalation of a little front-end.
Now we are looking for a best way to move them completly to web.
