future of Rich Text Editor maybe time to start with WEBVIEW

future of Rich Text Editor maybe time to start with WEBVIEW

Postby Otto » Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:46 pm

Hello friends,

Shouldn't we consider developing an alternative to RichEdit in parallel using WebView, e.g., with the TinyMCE editor?
I'm just thinking to be prepared for the future. That won't happen overnight.

Factors that could influence the future of Rich Text Editors.
There is a rising demand for more user-friendly and flexible editors that work across various platforms and devices. Developers might continue to add features such as drag-and-drop editing, enhanced multimedia support, and better integration with cloud services.

The integration of real-time collaboration features similar to Google Docs could be a crucial component of future Rich Text Editors. This would allow users to collaboratively and synchronously edit documents.

Optimizing Rich Text Editors for mobile devices is an important trend, as more users work on mobile.

TinyMCE:
A lightweight yet powerful WYSIWYG editor that can be easily integrated into web applications. TinyMCE is customizable and offers a variety of plugins to expand its functionality.

Regards,
Otto

Forgive me .. in our Computer shop we manually remove or Delete the Edge Browser and with the manual removal of the files Webview gets removed as well .. I despise Microsoft using the free Google chrome code and embelishing it to create Edge .. and just because Microsoft makes Windows, they think they can push another "chromium" browser that basically imports all CHrome bookmarks and passwords without any permission from the user ... "just because Microsoft can"

Now, with that said .. I do see advantages of using the webview runtime and it can be easily downloaded manually without the Edge Browser .. the only advantage of Microsoft installing Edge on all its operating systems is you do not have to manually download and install webview ... and perhaps that is good for large organizations that can leverage webview without having to use a GPO to copy and install webview to all its client computers ..

Just my 2 cents opinion

Hello Rick,
You show how differently users can evaluate the integration of software and operating systems.

Some users might share your concerns, while others might appreciate the convenience and efficiency of Microsoft solutions.

I don't know any computer stores that even unpack the devices anymore. Nor do I know any service technicians who would bother to do this work and uninstall things.

Regarding Microsoft, I think you need to revise your opinion, firstly their involvement in ChatGPT and now Copilot. It's a whole new situation.

Although Edge is integrated into Windows 11, users can still install and use other web browsers if they prefer.

However, uninstalling or removing Edge can lead to unexpected problems, as some system functions rely on Edge.
Therefore, it is generally recommended to leave Edge in the system, even if another browser is used as the default browser.

Best regards,
Otto

NB:
Currently, Microsoft is the most valuable company in the software sector in 2024. Microsoft has recently overtaken Apple as the most valuable company in the world.

Dear Mr.Otto,

Excellent sample demonstrating how we can utilise the power of Webview using Fivewin and use the advancements happening in the world of web applications and how we could leverage that in our desktop applications. :)

Do you mind sharing the sample code here ? I believe it will be useful for many of us here to learn, understand and use this. The more available samples, the more the users get inclined to use it. :)

Dear Anser,

It's great to hear from you. I will send you the source code via private message.

Why privately?

It's difficult to deal with the fact that many here are just cherry-picking or immediately against everything.
Also, hardly anyone is willing to test something for someone else or even take a look at it. We have to come to terms with it.

What is undeniable, however, is that the reports and input screens with WEBVIEW look much more professional and nicer than the desktop versions.

I am convinced that if people repeatedly see the examples and the problems, like how difficult, if at all possible,
it is to achieve similar results with desktop tools, then the desire for WEBVIEW solutions will grow.

If someone asks, then I immediately send all my sources.

Please give my regards to everyone,
Otto

For example, I had the source code and videos in this posting:
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=43975&start=0&hilit=4laid

But unfortunately, there was not a single reaction and no downloads.
That is somewhat frustrating.

Dear Otto,

I do understand your frustration very well.
But please, don't judge many members of this forum as cherry pickers.
We are all here to help each other.

And please, don't be blamed by Silvio. You know that he's highly inflammable if he gets answers which doesn't solve his problems but must read advertising about WebView.
( That doesn't mean I agree with Silvio's excited and sometimes offending messages. )

As you are now a specialist concerning WebView and AI you must consider that only very few members here could even grasp the meaning of your 'visions'.
And most of us are developing desktop applications since so many years. Those desktop apps are working excellent and do not need any WLAN nor internet.

But I think you are right... the time will come and your visions will succeed... more and more of us will have to learn about those new topics.

I tried myself to get knowledge about WebView.
But the webview.prg in the samples folder of FWH didn't even compile without errors.
So I kept in mind that this is work for future progress.

I would appreciate any tutorial about how to create a working example with MS WebView 2.
May be you could create one, Otto?
Or could you please, give me a tip how to get the FWH sample webview.prg working?

Kind regards,
Detlef

Detlef, may I ask what kind of software you make? Do you have your own product, and what is your customer base?
I think it all depends on that.

Otto

Dear Otto,
I'm a retired programmer who created all necessary programs for a company which still Is a producer/manufactor for musical instruments as well a distributor for musical goods worldwide.
I also created lots of webpages which php, MySQL, html and css.
Now, as I’m retired I still follow the discussion of this forum to not get an old outdated member.

For my wife I created shortly a software to manage her little enterprise.
Just for remaining curious and to keep my mind busy. 8)

Thank you, Detlef.

If you're already developing websites, WEBVIEW should be perfect for you. You can directly apply your knowledge of creating screens.

It would be great if we could exchange our experiences here. There are so many little pitfalls, and it can be tedious to tackle them all on your own.
It would be much easier together.

I can't help but think of how often I stumble upon casesensitivity issues in JavaScript.

Wishing you a lovely Sunday.

Best regards,
Otto

What errors do you get ?

Dear Antonio,
sorry for my mistake. I get linker errors not compiler errors.
I compiled TWebView without errors to it's obj file. Then I called buildx.bat to build webview.exe.
Here is what the linker is missing:

May be there is something I don't have with my FWH 22.10?
