Re: Windows Metro UI
Hello Stefan,
Sure I use Windows 8 on the desktop.
I am sorry but I think you have had only a short look on windows 8.
From your email I see that you are not aware of the new gestures.
Go to the right corner and you have a zoom out/in of the MetroUI.
Try right click on the MetroUI and you get at the bottom “All apps”.
Best regards,
Otto

Please try fwh\samples\metrptst.prg. It has all these features.

Re: Windows Metro UI
Otto,
Yes, it was only a short test, but for me it was enough to check its usability.
With the old desktop I can start my programs very quickly without learning new gestures
That´s not an improvement.
As I said, the metro design is good for tablets, but not for office pc. I´m sure, the metro design with its actual technique will not have any success in this group of users.
You are using it inside your app, that may be good solution to get a better overall view, but only if you don´t need to scroll to find the unsorted icons.

Re: Windows Metro UI
Hi,
I've tested with DP and last weekend with CP, but I've found no significat difference regarding the Metro UI.
The registry hack doesn't function anymore, but you can bring back the start button with Start8 (http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/).
So if you work with the desktop, the feeling is nearly like Windows 7, but if you start a Metro UI app...
So in IMHO Windows 8 might be good for Tablet PC's (we willl see), but for Windows 7 desktop users I still don't see any benefit

Re: Windows Metro UI
Hello Stefan,
consumer preview makes some concede to traditional windows users.
>So in IMHO Windows 8 might be good for Tablet PC's (we willl see), but for Windows 7 desktop users I still don't see any benefit
Have you read this post?

If you work with applications which use the Metro style design you will see that this kind of software is more productive and at the same time relaxing.
Please look at these screens – both have the same information.

Re: Windows Metro UI
I agree with Otto, Metro Ui is more "natural", intuitive than "normal" gui. i have Windows 8 CS 64 running in an VMware 8 workstation and in an notebook as principal OS, its perfect? NO, mas this is a "beta" or CS, many changes has made in final version. i see yesterday in verge site : microsoft release final version before october 2012, HP, Dell, Asus, lenovo already confirm tablets and computers to new system, and we have smartphones with win 8 too .
appl make to windows 8 (metro) will run with same code in desktop, tablets and smartphones and several cars system with sync tech from microsoft.
see this tip to make windows 8 start in desktop mode allways:
http://www.baboo.com.br/conteudo/modelo ... _z346.aspx
lenovo wants first to make an tablet with win 8:

Re: Windows Metro UI
Otto,
Yes? I didn't find them, but I think they have to implement something like a toggle mechanism between Metro UI and desktop mode in the final version!
Yes, it's always important to have a clear concept and a good and consistant design, but there are other companies, e.g. Apple, who have done this job (much) better than Microsoft.

Re: Windows Metro UI
Noberto,
yes, it will be very exciting to watch, how successful Windows 8 will be on - let me say - non desktop systems, especially on smart phones and tablet pc's.
BTW:
- My FiveWin application is running an iOS, Android, etc. via remote desktop, thanks to Otto.
- Apple has sold 3 million iPad 3 from friday until yesterday
