Windows Metro UI

Noberto,

now we are using BB with all advantages, regarding administration and security and disadvantages for the users.

Perhaps MS with Windows 8 becomes an alternative to BB in the next 2 or 3 years, or "Jelly Bean" has it on board, as you proposed.

First, there is a toggle between Metro and the desktop. It is the Windows button on the keyboard.

I really like the interface with Metro style. Perhaps one thing that is very different is the Panorama and frame concept. It is so easy to navigate.

I have spent the last two months studying Visual Studio. Next week I will be at a conference on Visual Studio with a lot of time spent on Windows 8, and Metro. To me, the future looks very promising for business applications under Metro. I do believe it will be very appealing to commercial enterprises because it will increase productivity, reduce errors, and be easy for people to learn.

Of course, I have 6 months of daily usage of Metro with my Windows 7 phone.

You can't see the benefit of Metro with a short trial. Otto has led the way for us with FWH, but I think many more will follow when they spend time with this new OS. Yes, it does mean change, but I believe people will be happy with the results.

Otto and Antonio,

I was reviewing the samples in FWH ( 12.02 ) for Metro but it appears they only are for the main screen. Do you have any samples that show other capabilities, like input and data display ? Otto, I realize you have accomplished this in WinHotel. It would be nice to have some samples showing how to utilize FWH to build full apps.

I looked at all 3 metro samples, but I'm more interested in data driven apps, with the grids and detail forms type of display.

You might want to look at LightSwitch. It takes the complicated out of Windows programming for data !

Tim,

I already saw the videos.

It looks nice, I won't say the opossite, but when you have to modify the generated source code, thats where the nightmare will begin... :-)

We could get some good ideas from it to develop something similar, but thats all that is interesting to me. There have been lots of app generators in the past, and sooner or later, a programmer has to code :-)

Antonio,

I fully agree with you!

Removed Windows 8 CP, next try with the final release or on an Android device, hot swapping between Android and Windows 8 ;-)

Microsoft is updating Windows 8 Customer Preview on an almost daily basis. I installed it on a separate partition, so its easy to continue my regular work but boot into 8 to do testing.

Antonio, yes it is true there is some coding, but its actually pretty simple for all the basic work. I will be interested in seeing whats been added in the newest release.

“The total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure,” said the LG spokesman, further elaborating that it currently has no plans of rolling out another LG-manufactured Windows phone soon

Hello Antonio,

I can't resist :D
Best regards,
Otto

Steve Wozniak loves Windows Phone, thinks it’s better than Android
http://www.androidauthority.com/steve-wozniak-windows-phone-android-80537/

Talking to A New Domain, Wozniak professed his love for the Windows phone and how he’d prefer it over Android phones “just for looks and beauty”. He said it was shocking to see how apps appear on the phone’s screen and how they are “much more beautiful than the same apps on Android and iPhone.” Wozniak pins this down to either Microsoft or Nokia making more effort in pushing key app developers to make “specialized beautiful ones or put their own themes on.”
