Otto,

On Wednesday I downloaded the WIndows 8 RTM, and the Visual Studio 2012 RTM. I have now installed them on two notebooks and an all in one desktop. All are working well.

The update will retain all data, settings, and apps installed under Windows 7. I only had a problem on one computer with my Office 2013 preview edition, but I was able to resolve it rather quickly.

I am very comfortable with the products. I'm sure there will be rapid updates as it now goes live. RTM is basically available to everyone who has some form of subscription with Microsoft.

You can also look for a steady rollout of new generation products. The pattern, I believe, will be to take certified product ( RTM ) and release it ASAP to all developers. This allows more people to create apps which Microsoft is STRONGLY encouraging.

So far, everything works fine.
